September 14th started out like any normal day, (at least normal for me) by waking up at 3am to begin our drive to our favorite beach on the Oregon coast. We made some coffee, loaded the car, and set off on the 2 hour drive. We were greeted with a dense fog and light rain as we navigated the long, empty roads through dense forests that lead the way to the coast.
We got to the beach at the perfect time to shoot some photos so we hurried up the trail to get to a higher point to watch the sun rise and shoot some photos. As we got up to the top I asked Garrett to shoot some photos of me, which is our normal routine, but this time he acted a little nervous and like he didn't want to. Being me, I had him shoot a couple anyway assuming he was just feeling tired since we woke up so early.
Once we got a couple photos we were happy with we walked down to our car which was parked just below us on the beach and laid in the back to watch the rest of the sunrise with you guessed it, more caffeine. Aka: Guayaki Yerba Mate which is basically our low key obsession.
After about 5 minutes of laying down and Garrett continuing to act a little nervous, he got out of the car and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I obviously said yes and he gave me my absolute dream ring. It was finally clear why he was acting a little off at the beginning of the day. He had been planning this for a while and I had no idea.
We headed south down the pacific coast highway, checking out more beaches along the way and just being generally the happiest people ever at that very moment.
Who would of thought that years after meeting my best friend (and making one of those funny friend marriage pacts that people make) that we would actually fall in love and be getting married for real. It's funny how things work out, and I wouldn't change our story for the world. Now in 2019, I get to marry my best friend and my life seems to be going in such a great direction.
